Back in 2019, Netflix released an intriguing animated project called Love, Death + Robots, an anthology series made up of 18 standalone shorts that adapted a number of short stories from some prominent science fiction authors.

After a long wait, Netflix has released a trailer for the next season, which is set to debut on the platform on May 14th.

The series was created by Tim Miller (the director of Deadpool) and produced by Joshua Donen, David Fincher, and Jennifer Miller, originally as a remake of the film Heavy Metal. Following the success of Deadpool, they opted to drop the movie idea and just take the concept to Netflix.

That first season contained a number of stories from authors like Peter F. Hamilton, Alastair Reynolds, John Scalzi, Joe Landsale, Ken Liu, Marko Kloos, David Amendola, Steven Lewis, Kirsten Cross, and Michael Swanwick, with a couple of other episodes that weren’t adapted from existing stories.

The trailer for this season promises another grab bag of short episodes with a variety of animation styles, with stories featuring strange Christmases, cyberpunk-looking cities, children embarking on strange adventures, poop-scooping robots, starships on distant worlds, giants, and quite a bit more. There’s no word on what stories or authors are going to be adapted this time around (or if any of those short stories connect to their predecessors in season one) but we’ll find out before too much longer.

The trailer drops another cool bit of news as well: the series has been renewed for a third season, set to release sometime in 2022. The new season will arrive on May 14th—and incidentally, the same date as an official anthology featuring all of the stories from the first season.
